Liu Kang sends a fiery flame in the shape of a dragon across the screen out of his hands at his opponent. As Liu Kang teached some Shaolin Monks at the Wu Shi Academy, a Grandall knight named Girardot appeared. Liu Kang’s default rival is a Grandall knight, in his case, Girardot Argezas. Liu Kang flies across the screen with a series of multiple kicks to the opponent’s torso. If not counting the DC Universe characters, Freddy is the second guest character of the Mortal Kombat series. His second fatatliy references how he killed Kristen Parker (Tuesday Knight) in the fourth film. This physical half killed hundreds of innocent people, with the skills he refined to protect them while he was alive.
Freddy has no dialogue lines, aside from a “Shhh.” while performing a throw, and a “No!” after being thrown in front of a car during The Street’s stage fatality. All of Freddy Krueger’s names of fatatlity’s are quotes that he say in films (Tell ‘Em Freddy Senta Ya from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and Welcome To My Nightmare from Freddy Vs Jason) and they are referenced. Pistons straining with effort when they are put to task. The Red Dragon would be a clan, sure, but the Black are a “syndicate”, which means they’re a gang, a mafia, an organized crime cartel.
He morphs into his dragon form (the fiery form it used in Liu Kang’s victory pose from Mortal Kombat X), then consumes the upper body of his opponent. I experimented with having him bald in this costume to go with the outfit, but it turns out that Liu with no hair at all really doesn’t look anything like Liu Kang to me, it just made him look like “generic monk”, and I didn’t want to lose any sense of the characters’ identities in their costumes. All 16 played characters are fought as opponents at least once throughout the Story Mode. SCORPION – Like Liu, I went the “origin story” route with Scorpion, I wanted to make his body look like he’s just been murdered by Sub-Zero. See, the whole reason he’s named “Scorpion” is he’s famous for using that weapon, which is like the stinger tail of a scorpion. As you can see, I whiff a lot with trying to use the spear and instead punch nothing but air.
He can also be seen rocking what appears to be armor, but with blue accents and a mask that ensured his menacing blue eyes could be seen at all times. Whilst appearing as his default elder appearance from Mortal Kombat X, his younger costume can also be seen in FMV Cutscenes mainly flashbacks. Baraka, Kitana, Mileena, Jax Briggs, Kung Lao and Shang Tsung all make an appearance during the story mode and in the character select screen. One is “origin story clothes”, which you see with other characters, and another is “street clothes”, which is where I went with Kano. SHANG TSUNG – Shang’s alt falls under the “origin story” category. For his clothes, I largely drew on his MKDA alt because I thought the giant samurai skirt-pants and long gloves went very well with the whole “Japanese demon” theme.
